The end of the quarter, the beginning of the summer!

As I bring Spring quarter to a close, I am getting busier and busier.  Here's a quick snapshot into the life of a scholar/practitioner/educator/father/husband.

• I am wrapping up my Spring quarter class--Reflections of America On Stage 1830-Present.  I have taught the course as an American Political Theatre course, which has proven to be very rewarding and challenging.  MY students seem to have liked the course, and seem to be taking much away from it. From here, it's just a matter of grading their final papers--which are due by Wednesday.
  
• I am also planning for my Summer term teaching assignment.  I am teaching Introduction to Theatre, on my own syllabus.  I am in the middle of figuring out what I want to teach these students in a VERY short 7-week version of the course. 
  
• I am closing in on the end of my Dissertation Prospectus--It is written, but I am waiting for members of my committee to suggest revisions before approval.  I hope to have it all complete by the end of the week.
• I am getting ready to go to Ireland for 10 days, and the Co-Resident Director of a Study-Abroad trip with the Department of English at OSU.  I get to take 13 students to Dublin and Galway (and points between), see some theatre, visit historical sites, see some friends, and enjoy the beautiful country that is my intellectual home.
• I am prepping for my next directing project--The Illusion by Tony Kushner (after Corneille) for Evolution Theatre Company.  I am very excited to direct this show for a number of reasons: it is my second production with Evolution, I get to work with Kushner's beautiful and poetic writing, the play is about magic and illusion, and I get to figure out how to make that happen on a thrust stage and a minimal budget.
• My amazing children are getting ready to go visit their grandparents, aunts and uncles in Utah for 7 weeks.  I am balancing my immense heartbreak at their being away with the knowledge that they will have a wonderful time, be well taken care of, and I will be able to do all of the things I need to do without worrying about keeping them entertained.
• My wife is still dealing with some health problems, including a horrific fight with hemiplegic migraines, and some weird liver issue that landed her in the hospital for 2 days a week-and-a-half ago.  I'm quite concerned about leaving the country for 10 days with her on her own.

So, that's what I'm up to...more on all of this as it develops!
